When it comes to choosing a destination for your next caravanning getaway, Queensland has so much to offer – the promise of adventure, natural encounters, unspoilt islands, picturesque beaches and the incredible Great Barrier Reef. It’s no wonder that so many people head north once the Summer holiday crowds have all gone home, or to escape the southern winter. It’s the most popular holiday state in Australia.
Been there, done that? Queensland is so rich in natural wonders and attractions there’s bound to be places you’ve never seen or even heard of before. Here are a few of our CIL Facebook followers’ favourite spots in the Sunshine State.
“Ellis Beach, far North Qld - Absolute heaven! Gorgeous blue sea, endless sandy beach, absolute beachfront powered and unpowered sites, perfect weather, plenty of room for all to enjoy the surroundings without being crowded in or bothered by others! Fantastic little bar and grill over the road and a surf club too. So close to Palm Cove, Cairns and Port Douglas, what more could you ask for!” Jenni
A well known favourite destination or travel base.
“Airlie Beach QLD. It has everything, beautiful beaches, lovely weather, friendly people, good fishing, and fine dining what more could you ask for.” Joanne
The perfect hide-away.
“A lazy little hamlet just north of Airlie Beach known as Hydeaway Bay in North Queensland. The Caravan Park there is small and addictive. This place is the jewel of the north and has been kept a closely guarded secret - until now that is! If you are looking to rest, relax, soak in the sunshine and tropical beaches, this is definitely the place for you.” Peter
Natural untouched foreshores and nearby whale watching
“Torquay Caravan Park at Hervey Bay. Gorgeous setting right on the water. Nothing beats looking out over the water at either sunset or sunrise and enjoying the peace and quiet. It's a place where you can go to forget about your worries for a while.” Deborah
Your own little peace of paradise.
“We love Inskip Point in Queensland. Tucked in a little corner overlooking the beautiful beach with Fraser Island just across the water. Absolute heaven. Very relaxing. Back to basics. You are not far away from Rainbow Beach if you need to replenish stocks. You feel like you are in your own little piece of paradise, and all the problems of the world are forgotten. You feel you could stay there forever.” Nancy
“We love to head to Inskip Point whenever possible. Beachfront camping spots are in abundance (out of school holidays). It's a handy location for us to catch up with friends in Gympie, a short drive to the Sunshine Coast or if we feel like a quiet day, we can park ourselves by the water and watch the steady stream of 4x4's traveling to and from Fraser Island. It's an all round beaut spot to set up camp.” Rob
“Lake Tinnarroo is the perfect area as a base to travel around the Tablelands Area of QLD. There are many attractions for site seeing and bush walking. Plenty of restaurants and a great weekend market. We love the area and enjoy fishing on the lake. We have stayed in a couple of different caravan parks and they have been extremely good.” Robert
So when the sun sets in the South at the end of another summer, pack the caravan and follow it north – because with a caravan or RV, the sun can always shine.
